In June of 1987, Woody & Joan Chunn moved their family of four to Wilson and began attending Farmington Heights Church. It wasn’t long before they joined the church and immediately got involved in serving.
Woody and Joan taught Sunday School for years at Farmington Heights. When the church began small groups in 2000, they were selected as leaders and have consistently been a part of lifelines. In addition, they have facilitated lifestyle classes and been involved in mentoring programs. Since 2006, they have been overseeing our GED program in conjunction with Wilson Tech.
Joan serves as a substitute teacher at A Child’s Place (a mothers’ morning out program at Farmington Heights) and volunteers at the Wilson Pregnancy Center. She has also been involved over the years with Ladies’ Ministries through the church. All of this was in addition to her being a wife & mother to their two children – Andy and Amy.
Woody was involved in the choir for 24 years. He has served on the Church & Pastor’s Council numerous times, as well as serving on the State Layman’s Board and the National Lay Evangelism Board. Missions has also been important to Woody over the years, as shown through his involvement in various projects and even attending a missions trip. Woody was a vital part of the Building Committee for both the Family Life Center and the Surge Center.
No doubt there are numbers of people whose lives have been touched by Joan & Woody Chunn. Their willingness to serve God by serving people stands as a powerful example of Christian living.
