An Open Door

Rev. 3:8 says, “I know your deeds.  Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you have a little power, and have kept my word, and have not denied my name.”

Lou Holtz, Notre Dame football coach, said: “Ability is what you’re capable of doing.  Motivation determines what you will do.  Attitude determines how well you do it.”  Attitude is everything. Our lifestyle will never rise above our attitude. Your attitude will lift you up or hold you down. Your attitude will drive you forward or hold you back.

In Every season of life, whether it is a good season or a challenging season, God always gives us opportunities.  When life seems to be the most difficult, God always puts before us an OPEN DOOR.

The open door is always a door of opportunity.  We see the open door throughout scripture.  “Knock and the door will be opened to you” (Matt. 7:7).  In Acts 14:27 we read: “On arriving there, they gathered the church together and reported all that God had done through them and how he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles.”  This was Paul and Barnabas’ report to the church leadership of the Antioch church concerning their first missionary journey.

In 1 Corinthians 16:8-9 Paul writes: “But I will stay at Ephesus until Pentecost, because a
great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.”

In 2 Corinthians 2:12 he says: “Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ
and found that the Lord had opened a door for me…”

In Colossians 4:3 Paul writes: “And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our
message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains.”

In Revelation 4:1 John say “a door standing open in heaven.”

If you maximize the moment in your life then you have to take advantage of the opportunities and the open doors that God has given you.

As I look back on my life, God has always been faithful to me.  No matter what season I have been in my life, there has always been an open door that God provided.  I have be honest, I have not always maximized those moments.  However, God is faithful to his people and as we maximize our opportunities and walk through the open doors of opportunities I believe God will use us in a special way.

In order to Maximize the open door opportunities one must be able to:

1. SEE THE OPPORTUNITY

“See, I have placed before you an open “door” (3:8).  Jesus begins His challenge by saying “see.”  Jesus tells them He has already opened the door but they have yet to see it.  One of our great challenges is seeing through the eyes of Christ.  If we are going to maximize our moment, then we must be able to see the opportunity.

2. WALK BY FAITH

Jesus said He was the One who had opened the door for them and no one could shut it.  We can believe that we will succeed because the Lord himself has given us the open door.  Sure, there will be challenges along the way and people who will try to close the door of opportunity, but they can’t shut the door that God opens because by FAITH “all things are possible to them that believe.”

3. BE RESPONSIBLE

Even though the believers at Philadelphia faced persecution, Jesus says He has opened a door. He knows they have “little strength,” but they needed to face the challenges with courage. Courage means using the little you have and trusting God to make up the difference.  God will open the doors in life but we have to be the ones to be responsible and take the steps to walk through the doors.

Remember the Open Door is Opportunities that God gives in the seasons of our lives whereby we as people of God soar like Eagles despite the circumstances around us.
