Keep Your Passion
With all the distractions in the world today, Christians have to guard against the attacks of the enemy. It just seems in our day and time the enemy is doing his best to wear down the saints and bring so many distraction their way to lose their passion and zeal for the Lord.
Jesus was the most focused and highly motivated person who ever lived. He was consumed with with zeal for the house of the Lord (John 2:17). Paul challenges us: “Never be lacking in Zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12:11).
All successful people have learned the art of self-motivation. To motivate means “to insight to action; to impel forward; to stir a passion.” As believers, we have the Holy Spirit to motivate us. “God... Works in you both to will and to act according to his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).
There is one thing that I have learned in my walk with God and that is not to wait on someone to come along and motivate me to keep moving forward. There are those times we just have to motivate ourselves in The Lord in order to keep our passion. When David hit rock bottom and no one supported him, he “encouraged himself in The Lord his God” (1 Samuel 30:6). We certainly need others to help us and to encourage us, but at the end of the day, you and God constitute a majority. Sometimes you may have to go at it alone and encourage yourself regardless of how you feel or how much support you might have. Don’t give up in the lonely times. Encourage yourself in The Lord by remembering:
“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
