Principles of Powerful Prayer

In the word of God, we find that we as Christians can pray the effectual fervent prayer of righteous men and women that avail much according to James 5:16.  Our words are powerful and our Prayers are even more powerful as we realize who we are in Christ and to whom we are praying.  Sometime ago I run across these principles of what it means to pray powerful prayers and wanted to share with you and trust that God will build your faith in praying.

1. Realize to whom you are Speaking
Jesus begins with “Our Father who art in Heaven.” Prayer is a conversation with God, and every conversation begins by addressing the person to whom you are speaking by name.

2.  Allow God to search you so you are cleansed from every sin or hinderance.
Proverbs 28:13 says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

3.  Realize when you pray, pray with authority and confidence through the name of Jesus.
John 14:13-14 says, “and whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”

4.  Pray with a Spirit of Expectation
Mark 11:22-24 says, “so Jesus answered and said to them, Have Fatih in God.  For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and doubts in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

5.  Pray with a Spirit of Fervency
James 5:16 says, “The effectual FERVENT prayer avails much.”

6.  Pray in Faith without doubting or wavering
Whatever your specific need is, find a promise in the Bible that  relates to it-and then share it with God.  Yes, He knows every  promise He ever made, but He wants you to claim it.  He wants you to bring it before Him in faith - without doubting or wavering  (James 1:6).
